Does the campus visitor policy allow community members access to the library? Last Updated: Oct 10, 2024 Views: 171
Visitor Information
Visitors are welcome to use the Library. There are currently no restrictions on using the Library. For the College's most up-to-date COVID-19 policies, please visit the COVID-19 policies page.
Masking
The College is currently mask optional for all individuals. Those who are unvaccinated or unboosted are strongly encouraged to continue masking. This policy should not be considered permanent and may change if COVID cases rise in the future.
Wifi access
Instructions on how to access WiFi as a campus visitor are located on the Geneseo Guest WiFi page.
Do I need a library account?
Visitors who would like to use our PC or Mac computers, or checkout/request books, DVDs, or CDs need an active library account and a library card.
Visitors who just need a quiet place to read or work do not need a library account.
Returning visitors with an existing library account:
Before returning to the library, please contact us at circ@geneseo.edu with your first name, last name, your current address, a working phone number, and your preferred email address. Additionally, let us know if you are still in possession of your library card; if so, please include the barcode number from the back of the card in your message. We will need this information to update your patron account.
Once your information is verified and updated, you will be forwarded instructions on how to log-in to GLOCAT, how to change your GLOCAT password, how to search our catalog, and how to request items.
New visitors that do not have a library account:
Please fill out this form approximately one week prior to your planned visit to campus. This will allow us the opportunity to create your account, prepare a new library card, and forward instructions on how to log-in to GLOCAT, how to change your GLOCAT password, how to search our catalog, and how to request items.
Picking up your library card:
Whether you are a new guest borrower receiving your first card or a returning guest borrower receiving a replacement card, when you arrive, please have your photo ID ready and inform staff at the Service Desk that you are picking up a library card. They will retrieve your card and turn it over to you.
Circulation
Items in our Teacher Education Resource Center (TERC) collection (young adult & juvenile fiction/nonfiction, curriculum books, model kits, games, and puppets) are browsable by all visitors and do not need to be requested prior to your arrival on campus.
All other circulating materials, including items in our general collection, media collection, and Genesee Valley Collection, must be requested prior to your arrival using our online catalog, GLOCAT: glocat.geneseo.edu
Requested items will be retrieved for you from a secure storage location prior to your visit and placed on the Hold Shelf behind our Service Desk. You will be notified via email when the item is ready to be picked up. When you arrive at the Library, inform the staff at the Service Desk that an item is on hold for you, show your library card OR a form of photo ID, and they will check the item(s) out to you.
Items that are requested using GLOCAT are typically retrieved and placed on our Hold Shelf under your name within approximately one day and will be kept on hold for approximately 7 days. Items that are requested on Friday or over the weekend may take longer to be retrieved.
If you arrive to pick up a requested item before you are notified that it is available for pickup, your item will not be available, and your request will not be expedited. If you feel as though it is taking an inordinate amount of time for your item to be retrieved, please email circ@geneseo.edu to report the issue.
